- Polyfollia, the festival
The experience of Polyfollia's founders prompted them to create the missing event of the choral planet: a market dedicated to professionnals from all over the world to enable them to discover polyphonic vocal music and its best ambassadors: artists, organizers, music promoters, journalists, experts.
Every other year, around November 1st, when professionals’ diaries are less congested, the World Showcase for choir music takes place in Saint-Lô and in Lower-Nomandy,a unique international event.
This Marketplace has become THE meeting-place for music presenters and concert organizers from the accross the globe. It is also a real Showcase for emerging professional vocal ensembles, selected from all five continents by an international committee of experts.
The artistic committee
Members of this committee are called the "Watchers". Every year, they identify noteworthy ensembles which deserve to be showcased on the international scene. Where possible, they attend one or more concerts given by these ensembles.
One year before the festival, the "Watchers" meet and each suggest 5 to 7 choirs and vocal ensembles. After two days of discussions, 12 ensembles are selected for the next festival.
The selected ensembles
These choirs and vocal ensembles are selected on several criteria: their excellence (vocal colour, quality of interpretation) as well as their ability to express a cultural identity, a new approach to choral art and particularly innovative stagecraft. Additionally, the artistic committee looks for a variety of cultural identities, of musical styles and of vocal forms to enable the festival audience to discover the richness of choral art.
And last, but not least, the festival presents two exemplary youth choirs, whose projects go beyond artistic interest and incorporate educational and social goals.
